Today is Epiphany!
The revelation of God in the form of Jesus Christ. Depending on whether your Christian origins are in the West or the East, this day celebrates the visit of the Magi (three wise men) to baby Jesus, the childhood of Jesus, Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River, and the first miracle performed at the wedding in Cana. When I first did research a year ago, the information I found at that time indicated it was a celebration of the visit from the Magi and therefore that is the story I will reference today. But, feel free to read all the stories referenced above to get yourself in the proper spirit of the holy day.
Read: Matthew 2:1-12
9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they has opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. (King James Version)
