Finished Scarf

This scarf is a pattern from a tear sheet at Michaels. I went to their website and did a search for the pattern and it wasn’t listed so I took a picture of the pattern in case you want to try it out for yourself. Click on the picture if you need to in order to see the text at it’s largest. I found the pattern to be very straight forward. I didn’t have any trouble reading it or following the directions given. The time frame was pretty spot on as well, it took me about 4.5 hours to complete.

Pattern

As usual my gauge was slightly different then that provided in the pattern. My width was 7 inches instead of 7.5 inches. I knew immediately and decided that I felt the scarf would still be wide enough. I’m thinking I would have needed to go up a hook size if I wanted to be in the correct gauge. I’m going to have to get a handle on this gauge thing before I attempt to make any real garments–but I’m kind of frustrated with the task. Here are some pictures of the process:

My iPad doesn't do it justice.

My iPad doesn’t do it justice. I think it came out awesome.

I’ve already shared the pattern with you. But for those who didn’t see the original post where I provided links to several scarves that I thought were cute and appropriate to the task at hand–the link to the pattern on Ravelry is here.

Pink hanging

I really enjoyed working on the scarf. The pattern was very straight forward and easy to follow. It was incredibly easy to remember and I did not need to go back to the pattern in order to complete the scarf. I also liked the yarn that I chose for the project. It is not too “splity,” and by that I mean my hook didn’t have a hard time gliding along while I worked.

At last I reveal the final destination for this lovely creation (if I do say so myself-ha!) I have joined in The Pink Scarf Project. Please click the icon below to find out all the important details about The Pink Scarf Project.

Brief overview: people all over are coming together to make pink scarves that will be distributed to ladies who are dealing with breast cancer. The link below will tell you where to send the scarves, if you decide to make one, and how to enter a drawing for a giveaway that Vicki has created for this year long project.

PinkScarfProject

I first learned about this great project from Astri at the blog Apple Blossom Dreams when she shared the scarf that she contributed to the project.

What I used:

  • Yarn: Red Heart Simmer in Hot Pink
  • Hook: 5.5mm/US I
  • What I did: I decided that the scarf wasn’t wide enough so I added 8 chains to the starting chain (which enabled me to add two additional slant stitches (34 chains). So I had 33 single crochet across and 7 slant stitch repeats across. The finished product is approximately 8 1/2″ wide by 70″ long.
  • Pattern note: She says that the chain 2 doesn’t count as a stitch, but I kinda think it does. It looks pretty similar to the three double crochets that make up the opposite end to me.

WIP Pink Scarf

This is my progress so far. Full details on the charity and a finished scarf will come next week. I will tell you that it is for a breast cancer project. I had hoped to have the scarf finished this week as an additional tribute to my grandmother (she passed away last year from lung cancer), but I was slow moving this week and didn’t get started on the scarf until Thursday.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look.
