Read: Proverbs Chapter 2

Key Verses: 3-5

3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and the find the knowledge of God. (KJV)

3 Yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek [Wisdom] as for silver and search for skillful and godly Wisdom as for hidden treasures, 5 Then you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of [our omniscient] God. (AMP)

3-5 That’s right–if you make Insight your priority, and won’t take no for an answer, searching for it like a prospector panning for gold, like an adventurer on a treasure hunt, believe me, before you know it Fear-of-GOD will be yours; you’ll have come upon the Knowledge of God. (MSG)

KJV: King James Version  AMP: The Amplified Bible  MSG: The Message

Insight:

  • Here we see the benefits of finding and practicing wisdom
  • God is the ultimate bestower of wisdom (look to the Bible for instruction and understanding)
  • We should be seeking after wisdom like searching for treasure
  • If life is a journey, where are you on that path?

Discussion Question:

Do you hunger and thirst for godly wisdom? Where would you rate your journey to spiritual maturity on a scale from 1-5 (with 5 being the lowest mark)?

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkenth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. (KJV)

32 For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the careless ease of [self-confident] fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkens to me [Wisdom] shall dwell securely and in confident trust and shall be quiet, without fear or dread of evil. (AMP)
